How It Started

Growing up in regional Western Australia, I was surrounded by incredible nature, but I rarely knew what was happening around me. Wildflowers would bloom, whales would migrate and butterflies would emerge, yet I'd usually find out after the moment had passed. Like a lot of people my age, I also spent far more time on my phone than I did exploring the world just outside my door.

That sparked a simple question: what if technology could help us reconnect with nature instead of distracting us from it?

Making It Happen

Syqei is built around something simple: every real place you visit, a park, a reserve, a stretch of coastline, unlocks a real, scientifically accurate butterfly into your own personal garden. Butterflies were chosen from the very start as a symbol of transformation, resilience, and biodiversity.

Why "Syqei"

Syqei is pronounced psy-key, a play on Psyche. In Greek mythology, Psyche was a mortal woman whose story became a symbol of the soul itself; her name, ψυχή, means both "soul" and "butterfly." The Ancient Greeks believed the butterfly carried the soul, a symbol of transformation, wisdom, and the parts of ourselves that only emerge once we've actually lived through something.

We don't believe technology should replace nature. We believe it should help people reconnect with it.
